SparkMarker privacy policy
Effective date: October 4, 2026
SparkMarker is a browser extension, published by Sparksoft Corporation, for commenting on web pages. This policy explains what information it handles and where that information is kept. It applies to SparkMarker only; SparkMarker Team has its own policy.
In short: everything SparkMarker handles is stored in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to Sparksoft or to anyone else.
What SparkMarker stores, and where
The following is kept in the extension's local storage in your browser:
- the name you enter to show next to your comments;
- your comments and replies, and whether a comment is resolved;
- for each comment: the address of the page it was placed on, a short description of the element so the marker can be found again, a screenshot of that element, and the browser, operating system and window size it was written in;
- the findings of accessibility checks you run;
- whether SparkMarker is switched on, the sites you have switched it off for, and your preferences.
We do not receive any of this and have no access to it. There is no account, and SparkMarker does not connect to a Sparksoft server.
What SparkMarker does on a page
SparkMarker can run on any page you visit, so that you can comment on any page you choose. Until you switch it on, it does nothing on a page. Once switched on, it reads the page's structure to place markers on elements, captures a picture of an element when you comment on it, and analyses the page when you ask for an accessibility check. All of this happens on your device.
What SparkMarker does not do
- It does not collect personal information or usage data.
- It does not use analytics, advertising or tracking.
- It does not sell or share data with third parties; it has none to share.
- It does not load or run code from a remote source.
Sharing is in your hands
Your comments leave your browser only when you export them: by copying them as Markdown, or saving them as a CSV, comment or backup file. What you do with an export, and who you send it to, is up to you.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays in your browser until you delete it. You can delete individual comments in SparkMarker; removing the extension deletes everything it stored. Because we hold no copy, we cannot recover it for you: use Download a backup on the options page for anything you would miss.
